Compare Medigap Plans
Medigap plans offer outstanding coverage to people on medicare, but choosing the right plan can get overwhelming. Our website helps you compare Medigap plans in your area to help save you the most money possible.
What are Medigap Plans?
Medigap is a supplemental health insurance plan that helps to cover the gaps in Medicare coverage. It can be purchased from private insurance companies to help fill in the areas that Original Medicare, Part A, and Part B, do not cover.
With Medigap plans, individuals can feel secure knowing they are covered for additional costs associated with medical care that they may encounter.
Medigap plans help supplement Medicare by covering out-of-pocket costs such as co-payments, co-insurance, and deductibles.
These plans also cover certain services not covered under Original Medicare, such as preventative care and transportation to doctor’s appointments.
The most basic Medigap plans provide coverage for hospitalization and skilled nursing care, while more comprehensive plans offer additional benefits depending on the individual’s needs.
Each Medigap plan has its own set of benefits, so it is essential for individuals to research each one before purchasing. Each plan has a different range of benefits; some provide more extensive coverage than others.
Because all Medigap policies have the same benefits regardless of where an individual lives or which private insurer they purchase it from, it’s important to shop all the top companies and their rates.
Our website can help! By filling out the form to the right, you can view the rates for the most popular plans from the top insurance companies in your area.
For people on Medicare looking for extra security when it comes to their healthcare needs, Medigap plans can be beneficial additions to traditional Medicare coverage.
By paying a monthly premium on top of their Medicare Part B premiums, seniors can gain access to comprehensive coverage that pays for additional medical services they may need while eliminating the stress associated with dealing with numerous health insurers at once.
How many Medigap Plans are available?
Medigap Plans are identified by letters A to N. Each plan provides different coverage and the benefits do not improve as you move up the alphabet.
The 10 Medigap Plans available are Plan A, B, C, D, F, G, K, L, M, and N (with high-deductible options for F and G). Medigap Plan A is the most basic plan, while plan letters F, G, and N are the most popular Medigap plans providing the highest coverage.
No Medigap plan includes prescription drug coverage, and you will need to enroll in a separate Medicare Part D prescription drug plan if you do want this.
How much do Medigap Plans cost?
Medigap plans are offered by private insurance companies, so the cost can vary significantly from one company to the next. Generally, premiums for a Medigap plan will range from $50 – $250 per month depending on how much coverage is desired and where you live.
The type of plan chosen also factors into the cost; basic or standard plans tend to have lower premiums than more comprehensive options such as high-deductible plans or ones with additional benefits such as vision care or prescription drug coverage.
It is important to shop around when comparing Medigap plans because there may be differences in terms of what they cover and at what price level they cover, even if different insurers offer similar types of policies.
Different insurers apply different criteria when setting their rates so it pays off to look around before making any decisions about which policy is right for you.
Many insurance companies offer household discounts for Medigap plans, even if you are just living with someone else.
Also, several insurance companies do have a one-time application fee as well that ranges from $20-25, which is paid with the first month’s premium.
How to Compare Medigap Plans
Comparing Medigap plans can seem like a daunting task, but when you break it down into manageable steps, the process becomes much easier.
When comparing Medigap plans, there are several factors to consider. First, make sure the plan you’re considering covers the services and benefits you need.
It’s also important to compare the premiums of each plan — some plans may have lower monthly premiums but higher out-of-pocket costs when you actually need care.
Medigap plans do not have a network, so there’s no need to check with your doctor to see if they accept a plan from a certain company. As long as they accept Medicare Part B they will accept your Medigap plan. This is not the case with Medicare Advantage plans.
If you are within 6 months of your Medicare Part B effective date, then you may apply with any company for a Medigap plan and not have to answer any medical questions.
If you’re outside of this period, then you will likely have to answer medical questions and go through medical underwriting and an approval process. We can help you find options.
The Best Medigap Plans
Even though there are 10 different Medigap plans, a few plans stand out that most people enroll in due to their outstanding coverage and low premiums.
While there is no one “best Medigap plan” for everyone, chances are one of these plans will fit your needs well.
The most popular Medigap plans are:
- Medigap Plan G
- Medigap Plan N
- Medigap Plan F
Medigap Plans provide additional coverage for expenses not otherwise covered by Original Medicare. These may include coinsurance for Medicare Part B, or various copayments and deductibles.
Other advantages of these plans are they may cover out-of-pocket expenses incurred while receiving care at home or abroad; offer emergency transportation services; and extend hospital stays beyond what is normally included by Original Medicare (up to 365 days).
It is essential to remember that Medigap policies are provided by private insurers and premiums may differ from provider to provider, although they all offer the same coverage. This is called “standardization” of the plans.

Medigap Plan F

If you were not enrolled in Medicare prior to January 1st of 2020, you may not enroll in Plan F. If you had Plan F prior to this date, you are allowed to remain in the plan.
Medicare Plan F covers 100% of the gaps of Medicare Part A and B, but it does have the highest monthly premium.
Medigap Plan G
Medicare Plan G continues to be a popular choice for those looking for comprehensive coverage and a reasonable rate. Individuals enrolling on January 1st, 2020 or after may not enroll in a Medigap Plan F, however Plan G provides them the highest benefits and is likely a better option to save money.
On Medigap Plan G you only have one small deductible to pay. This is the Medicare Annual Part B deductible. Once this is met, Plan G provides 100% coverage of the gaps in Medicare.
Medigap Plan N
Medicare Plan N is also very popular due to it having lower monthly premiums than Medicare Plan G, but still great coverage.
Medigap Plan N can be up to $30 less per month than Plan G. In exchange for lower premiums, you may have some additional expenses with Plan N. These include:
- Up to a $20 copay for doctor’s visits
- A $50 copay if you visit the ER and you’re not admitted.
- Plan N doesn’t cover Medicare Part B excess charges.
You can compare the monthly rates for each of these plans by simply filling out the form to the right of this page.

When can I change Medigap Plans?
When it comes to Medicare supplement plans, it is important to understand that there are certain times when you can and cannot change your plan.
Many people who are currently enrolled in a Medigap plan think they can only change their plan during the annual Open Enrollment period, which typically begins on October 15th and ends on December 7th of each year.
Generally speaking, you can apply to change your Medicare supplement plan at any time during the year.
Though you can apply to change Medigap plans during this time, it is not necessary to wait until this period. This annual enrollment period is primarily used to change your Medicare Part D drug plan, or for people to disenroll from a Medicare Advantage plan and return to Original Medicare.
If you are considering switching plans at any time during the year it is important that you do your research and compare different plans so that you can ensure that the coverage meets all of your needs.
Also, if you are applying for a new Medigap plan you will likely have to go through what is called medical underwriting. This means you’ll need to answer medical questions and be approved for the new plan.
